A buddy of mine Jeff Gerrans from 3J Precision needed this display part welded up to join two halves and then he machined it back down. It was to be painted and used with one of the big oil companies around here. Would of liked to see the finished part.
Late night grind last night. Welded up a part to be on display at shows. Not a production part. First time to do 3/4″ thick aluminum. The puddle got hot on me. You can see discoloration in the weld puddle. I need more seat time with thick material. It was 4043 filler rod. When I weld with 5356 it doesn’t do what this did. Haven’t figured out my setup. This weld will be machined down, painted and bondo’d for the display. Maybe some of the Wizards on here have some advice 👌👍 #tig #welding #weldporn #aluminum
